A study on arc index of knots
HwaJeong Lee () /
A knot is a one-dimensional circle embedded in three-dimensional space. A fundamental problem in knot theory is to distinguish knots that are not same. To show that two knots are not equivalent, one usually uses invariants having different quantities on these two knots. In this talk, we focus on a knot invariant which is called are index. I first introduce several basic notions in knot theory. And I present a small survey of results on the arc index of knots. I also describe my recent results with H. Takioka on the invariant.
